Twenty Three Years Ago…

we sat in front of Monmouth City Council and Mayor Paul Evans (now our state representative) with what was then a radical idea–well a radically old idea—build a neighborhood with garages in the back, front porches, and tree-lined streets.  That rainy November night we were appealing a planning commission decision that had denied Edwards Addition moving forward.  One commissioner had said while this was noble idea which she fundamentally supported, but because (in her opinion) Monmouth was not ready for such a progressive idea, she decided to cast her vote against it. Mayor Evans then voiced his support, laying the groundwork for our successful appeal. It was only by a slim margin that Edwards Addition was given the nod to proceed.  For that, we have always had a debt of gratitude to Paul.

… one commissioner had said … Monmouth was not ready for such a progressive idea.
